I know anglers that use the 1/8 oz. Scrounger with a variety of trailers and do just as well. Many are catching walleyes and Stripers on this same or similar rig. Using the scrounger rig for smallmouth bass boils down to finding what works for you and what you are comfortable with. Some anglers may prefer the 1/8 oz. Scrounger with a grub or helgramite for creek smallmouth while someone else may prefer the 1/4 oz. with a bigger fluke for a trailer to get a faster fall through the water colulm. Either way, the Scrounger jig can and will produce plenty of smallmouth if you are looking for something different and versitile.

This monster was caught while he was at the Kesagami Lake Lodge in the Hudson Bay Lowlands. Way to go Gord, Great Fish!

As you would imagine, some do work better than others so, I am attempting to save you some time and put a list of approved baits. These are baits we use and know work well in conjunction with Scroungers.

The Lunker City FinS Fish works great. Below you will find a picture of it rigged.

You may also like the squirming action of a Case Plastics “Jacks Worm” on your Scrounger. The Jacks Worm is slender and produces a great wiggle that fish can’t seem to resist. See one of these rigged below.
